Thanksgiving - A Brit's Take On It

I had this naive idea that Thanksgiving was just like Christmas is only you get to do it all twice over. I was fortunate enough recently to have a Manager from the US for 3 years. David and his wife Elaine are the kind of couple who have lived in many places... (posted by Sally Higgins 6 years 202 days ago.)

Making Excuses
According to Collins Dictionary an excuse is ‘a reason or justification’ or ‘to make allowance for’. Perfect. We are so good at avoiding what needs to be done or allowing ourselves to accept less than we deserve that we even have a word for the act of doing so. ‘yeah but’…famous words! If you hear ‘yeah but’ train yourself to understand that an excuse is on its way. The excuse is coming any second now. Align the phrase ‘yeah but’ to a... Warming Winter Thoughts
Warming winter thoughts The air is getting crisper and the leaves have almost finished falling. Winter is almost upon us. The changing of the seasons are timely reminders of the cycle of life and the need for change. What exactly is the message of winter? The message is that some times we need to let go. Some times things finish serving their purpose. Some times we no longer have need for the things... (posted by Sally Higgins 6 years 279 days ago.)

New Years Resolutions
New Years Resolutions It’s that time of year again – time to road test the New Year Resolutions. Off we go, clutch engaged, engine on, tank fuel of motivation and determination, headlights on full beam pointing to where we want to get to……now where did I put that damn map? New Years is always a great time for evaluation, reflection, goal setting and clean slates. January is peak time for new gym memberships and enrolments to... Making Mistakes
Regrets, I’ve had a few, but then again too few to mention The willingness to make mistakes is probably the single most freeing decision we can make. When you allow yourself to make mistakes, you free yourself from all constraints of seeking perfection and you open yourself up to all kinds of opportunities and possibilities. Perfection is a limitation. Firstly because when you achieve perfection there is nowhere to go beyond that.... (posted by Sally Higgins 6 years 279 days ago.)
